The anaconda is the mainland’s largest snake. It’s a calm and stealthy anaconda that inhabits the Amazon and Orinoco basins of tropical South America.

Up to 27 feet long, the anaconda catches prey by subduing it with its long body and massive jaws. Birds and small mammals are at risk of being eaten; once wrapped around its prey, the snake squeezes hard and distends with air to kill.

Anacondas also lay eggs like snakes; females do not give birth.

Activity 4: ENDANGERED BUTTERFLY COLLECTION

Write an article about the endangered Portuguese Lady.

This butterfly is a great example of color diversity and beauty in the insect world. It is found primarily in areas with treed environments along the coast of South Africa, although it has occasionally been spotted in Namibia. This attractive butterfly has a double row of yellow dots on its black forewings, which turn into striking eyespots when it is alarmed. Bright white spots, smaller than those on the forewings, cover the upperside of its hind wings, giving this sighting additional ornate appeal upon take-off, as it is one of the few species of butterflies capable of flying backwards.

The butterfly as it is known here is found in nature only in South Africa, but its historical range covered southern Europe as well and included Morocco in North Africa. It is a shy species, and when in danger will often quickly recognize on which tree to perch in order to blend into its surroundings. Adults mostly eat fruit, and those that cannot reach it consume plant sap. The caterpillar is the main species responsible for maintaining the population of the Portuguese Lady.

It is believed to be an important pollinating insect in South African regions, which lead to its continued threat of extinction. The caterpillars use mimicry to fool hungry birds: they are small and green and offer imprints of eyespots, which predators associate with spiders or mollusks’ skins, in order to startle predators away. The caterpillar also donates to its population by being cannibalistic — only the biggest caterpillars survive this process.

The eyespots can be observed vividly beneath the wings of the adult Portuguese Lady. The variation of these physical traits assists in its mimicry, and it is speculated that the bright coloration on the male delivers warning of territorial explosiveness to other males during the butterflies’ mating season. Those that successfully copulate likewise display bright coloration on their hind wings, in a similar action to the females’ eyespots.

Activity 5: BASELINE FOR FUTURE RESEARCH

Look at the article Baseline for Future Research in the top right-hand corner of the page you are using now. Read it. What does it say about the position of Chinese culture in the world today? How does culture inform our view of reality? How does the study of culture differ from the study of the natural world (biology and botany)? What is the relationship between culture and society? What happened as a result of globalization? Ethnocentrism?

Use information from your reading and class discussion to write an answer to your question. Include at least three references (newspaper articles or websites) that support your argument.

Write this article in A4 paper and you should show full details in your essay about the band and its songs.

Just do your best on this task, don’t miss any details.

Use notes from the internet, Google it!

This is not a very big job that requires a lot of time, so you should be able to take care of it without any problems.

If you accept this task, you’ll be paid 6$

Thanks!
